This time I DID bring a camera!
    w00tstock! w00t!

I went to w00tstock as a last minute thing. I saw Adam Savage post it on twitter and I said "You know, if I get out of work by 5pm, I'll go because I still have to get tickets."
I left work at 5:15pm. Bah! Still time to go!

w00tstock is actually a concert put on by Paul and Storm, a comedy geek musical duo. They had special guests; some which were announced but a few nice surprises. There were probably about 300 to 400 people and there was no print advertisement. Nope, it was all facebook, twitter and web advertising. So you kind of have to know this event.

You know I did not go to Comic-Con this year. However, w00tstock is "all the people I wanted to see at ComicCon but a much smaller venue."

Like I said, THIS time I got pictures!

    Kim Evey and me

Kim Evey played Kiko in the web series "Gorgeous Tiny Chicken Machine Show" but she's also the producer of the "The Guild." I immediately recognized who she was but she wasn't performing; just supporting friends. So I approached and asked, "Hey, are you Kim Evey?" She seemed pleasantly surprised. We chatted for a bit on what she was working on. I asked for a picture and I felt good that was willing to say "Hi."

Adam Savage from Mythbusters and me

There was a LONG line for Adam, which I completely understand. After he shook my hand, I sat next to him while someone took my pic with my camera and I told him that I came specifically because of his tweet on twitter (which was true).

Then I gave him and everyone else something: a bottle of hand sanitizer/lotion because I know they shake a lot of hands and it's flu season. It's from Bath and Body works and smells nice.

After Adam thanked me, he actually asked me if I played serious pool, to which I replied that I didn't. He said that serious pool players tend to drink a brandy glass out of the same hand while they bridge with the other hand (or something like that.) By the same token, whenever he shakes a lot of people's hands, he just makes sure that the same hand never touches his face.

"This drove Jamie nuts!" he said. "He could wonder why he would get all these colds because his hands kept touching his face and I didn't do that." Okay, he told it better than I did, but it was a cute story.

Myself, Wil Wheaton, Greg DiConstanzo (from Paul and Storm) and Molly Lewis

I bugged the guy for one last photo and he said, "Okay last one!" Wil said, "We can all squeeze in for this one!" and there's the pic.

    And just because:

Molly Lewis, Paul Sabourin, Felicia Day and Greg DiConstanzo

Felicia Day sings "Do You Wanna Date My Avatar?" LIVE.

It was one night only. And it was AWESOME.

So apparently Carl Edwards is hot.
So apparently, NASCAR driver Carl Edwards is hot.

    How hot?

Well, he is one of six different covers on ESPN Bodies issue:

That's one of the pics; finding the cover where he lifts two tires, one in each hand in quiet strength is a kewl pic.

Although I have to say I was moved by the cover of amputee triathlete Sarah Reinertsen. It's a beautiful shot and she even said in interview that she felt powerful.

    Something fun I saw.
Believe it or not, I got this from Mark Salling's (the guy who plays Puck on Glee) twitter who put a link of it on one of his tweets.

Someone made a Puck/Kurt slash music video. I guess the editor calls it a "Purt" video. The editing is brilliant.

    Nerd Day. (LARP stuff)
I was just expecting to help playtest a LARP today. Who knew?

Met up with [info]thelastmehina, Steve and Adrianne from Dying Kingdoms to playtest a new LARP. It was in its alpha stages but it was fun.

What I did not know was that the people who played the PCs were a group of actors from the play "Friends Like These." It is a play about people in high school and a few of them are in a boffer LARP and the play had been written by Greg, the guy in charge of this LARP. With the exception of one, the actors did not know what a LARP was so the playwright decided to run a LARP with them so they understand what was involved.

For many of them, this was their first LARP but it was very kewl how eager they were to learn. I tried teaching a guy a double sword technique from the little that I remember of arnis and I realized very quickly why I'm not an arnis teacher. I can do it; I just can't explain it very well. But it's nice to know that he wants to learn the technique so he can use it in the play.

So Steve, [info]thelastmehina and I decided to see the play that night after we went to the mall to kill some time. None of us expected to see Josh running Games Workshop there before heading to the Giovanni OWBN LARP. He yelled "Gamers!" at us and I yelled "Geeks!" back at him in the middle of the mall. One thing that struck me about Games Workshop, full of painted miniatures was the people who were there. I expected your standard run-of-the-mill geek. It was all guys, of course, but the guys did not look like geeks at all. They looked like normal mainstream kids. It as if some casting director completely screwed up the cast for geeks and put Disney kids there. It was unreal.

So afterwards took a nap and headed to the theatre in North Hollywood. Hung out a bit with Naomi, a girl I met from the LARP that day who has already seen the play and is seeing it again. I was not sure what to expect in the play...

That was actually one of the best plays I've seen in a while. Sure all the LARPers laughed at the LARP jokes but LARP is only one aspect of this play that deals with school social structures, what is expected in an outcast and a popular person, and attitudes towards violence leading to a climactic ending. And the entire cast was amazing. To think I got to know them as first time LARPers first.

So of course, Rachel, Steve, Adrianne and I are trying to bring these people to Dying Kingdoms. They may take us up on that.

I found a link on the play "Friends Like These" if you want to check it out. Although the biggest endorsement that this play has is that it received a "GO" from LA Weekly.

How I'm going to celebrate my birthday.
I'd like to have a picnic at the Getty Museum two Sundays from now, September 27th. I had thought of this weekend but that might be busy as well.

I think the last time I went to the Getty, I was blown away how beautiful it was. Parking is $15.00 but the museum is free and open to the public. I just think people just bring various sorts of food to the picnic would be kewl and sophisticated-like. Then afterwards, we could storm paintings on the French revolution.

Ummm... I don't know how to do an evite, but when I figure it out, I'll send some. But really, this post is my invite.

And I figure, if the Leo Party is going to be about debauchery, this would serve as a nice contrast and basically any Virgo should come out to celebrate... I mean, you CAN drink alcohol at this museum because they offer wine at the cafe. You just have to be more sneaky about it because you can't bring glass bottles from outside...

Hehe... I kind of like this idea. Celebrating my birthday at a museum to remind me that I'm not as old as the paintings around me.

    Just an observation.
On Glee, Cory Montieth is definitely cute but the teacher, Matthew Morrison, is all sorts of hawt.

What clenched this? His "Gold Digger" perfomance. That guy has insane swagger.

Normally, non-rapping actors performing a rap would cause me to cringe. MM nailed it while gliding, spinning and flexing. That was HAWT.

    Mercury in Retrograde stuff.
As [info]mimerki pointed out, we are in Retrograde mode for nearly this whole month.

I have this feeling, though, that the effects are much lesser this time around. The first week (this week) will be the worst one and it won't be all that bad. But we will have the occasional missed phone call, text, post, IM, etc.

After that week, I don't see it being noticeably different from what we have been going through.

    Dying Kingdoms stuff.
So my Labor Day weekend was full of LARPy goodness. Most of it was playing Dying Kingdoms, created and written by [info]trekhead.

Thinking about the last two nights, my head just kept going, "Wow..." It's hard to really underscore how GOOD this game is. There are key points why this game is really good:

    Sprite.
A few have asked why would I leave Scott's cat alone like that.

First of all, unfortunately, she does not get along with other cats or even the dogs. When another cat or dog approaches her, she makes a growling sound and if they get too close, she attacks. Or other cats attack her. I really don't know why that is except that Sprite is extremely territorial.

The other reason, according to Scott's mom who has worked with abused animals, is that Sprite has been a traumatized cat. You cannot force her to be social and it takes a long time for her to trust anyone. Even when Scott and I lived together in Encino, it took her at least 4-6 months before she could approach me because she would run away otherwise.

Last night, I tried to move her into my room. She wouldn't have it. I started by moving the food, water and litterbox into my room and usually she would follow me. Normally, I could pick her up and take her to my room but she kept clawed to the bed and refused to budge. She also made that sound the she makes when she was about to attack so it meant I'm forcing the issue.

Also, Scott's mom and stepdad do visit Sprite, too, and spend time with her. Actually, in many ways, many of the cats that live in this house (there's about 8 to 10 here) all have special needs. We do have cats that need medicine twice a day and a blind cat. With Sprite, you have to have a LOT of patience because she also has internal balance issues. And occasionally, she is a bit of a diva.

I've actually tried to make Sprite social but unfortunately, both Scott and his mom said that I would just aggravate her social anxiety. But at night, the door to Scott's room is left open so she is free to wander around the house after the other cats have been put away.

When she is ready, I know she'll move into my room. She'll indicate this by sleeping on my bed in my room or hanging out in my room (which she has done before).

Scott mentioned to me once that Sprite never really thinks of herself as a cat because she only likes hanging around other humans. Knowing Sprite, this makes a lot of sense.

    I could be anthropomorphizing but...
Since Scott moved into a treatment place, I left Sprite mostly alone in Scott's room. I visit her every night to give her company, but it's because I believe she was content in being alone. Recently, I've noticed that one eye was swelling up, so I asked Scott's mom for help. She said to try to apply some antibotic to it; we use the same kind for the blind cat, Papaya.

Tonight I went into her room and the swelling in her eyes was not as noticeable, so I refrained from using the antibiotic. But her eyes were very wet as if she had been crying. There were huge tears running down her face and she seemed extremely happy to see me and immediately, she wanted to cuddle.

That's it. Sprite moves in my room tonight. It breaks my heart to see Scott's cat crying like that and I feel bad for being so insensitive.

New article up: The importance of tricksters
Maybe you know someone like "Zack Morris" in your life. Confident, charming, but seems to get away with murder. This archetype dates way back into ancient civilizations such as Norse Gods like Loki and Native American entities like Coyote. Tricksters make for interesting characters but also very important people that keep our lives from being too mundane.

Is there anyone who is an animal communicator who can help me with my cat? The hypervocalizing has me at my wit's end. O.o This has been an ongoing issue for the past two years; vets have ruled out medical issues, keeping him doped up doesn't help and causes more problems than it solves. It's definitely getting worse, not better. :o( If someone could please help me communicate with him to figure out why this is happening and what can be done to fix it, I would be most appreciative. Thanks!

    Gathering resources and pooling them.
I was going to write about some metaphysical observations about stuff going on in LA but as I wrote it, it looked like so much gloom and doom, I figured adding to this will not help any.

So instead, this post is to ask for any information can that can anyone out.

If you know of any job postings that may not be widely available, post.
If you have rooms for rent, post.
If you know of items that you want to sell or acquire or their links, post.
If you know of any practical money advice, post.
If you know of any cheap forms of entertainment, post.

Maybe this will work, maybe this won't. But the idea is to make a sort of more localized Craig's List and since I at least know most of you here, it's not completely impersonal. And this would not be limited to just Los Angeles as well.

At the beginning of the next day, I'll create a post of what was posted here that hasn't been resolved yet. I figure if we can do with with pooled energy, why not try this on the more practical side as well? We'll see if this works.

New article: The magical origin of the lullaby.
I wondered if lullabies were more than just a mother singing a child to sleep. After all, sometimes nursery rhymes have such occult origins.

It turns out that lullabies are actually a form of warding magic in the beginning.

By the way, if anyone knows where I can get a public domain pic of the mythological figure Hermes, Loki, Coyote or Anansi, please let me know. Even artwork would work. It would be for an upcoming article.

    Last night's party
That's probably the most amount of alcohol I drank in a single night. 10 drinks and I stayed rather upright. Uncle Rick would be proud.

It was kewl seeing people at this party because it is the biggest bash of the year. It was the perfect way to unwind from a very stressful week.

Next week is Strategicon. Dying Kingdoms and OWBN Anarch game, here I come--

Not in the greatest of moods.
It's been a very stressful week. Not just for me but several of my friends.

My energy is very low at the moment so I can't go into the "gung-ho, let's go fix this" mode. In fact, I have a bit of stomach pain and headache at the moment.

Instead I offer a universal blessing where if you fall, you can quickly stand on your feet.

New article: If you lose your soul, how much weight do you lose?
I wrote this article because there's been a long standing claim by metaphysicians that the soul has a physical weight.

I wanted to see for myself how true that was and the results are in this article.

Where the term "fired" (losing your job) comes from. (Random)
I was researching this because I thought maybe it has an occult origin because something was set on fire like a witch, an effigy, a gun or something.

It turns out that something is actually set on fire.

The origin is that if someone was caught stealing from his Lord in England, not only does he lose his job, but the Lord can lock him in his house and set fire to it.
